If you've got a little one coming up through Sioux Falls schools, is about to get bigger. The district plans to expand the program to full school days at 15 elementary schools for the 2027-2028 school year. Dakota News Now reports it's growing from three schools to 15.

Assistant superintendent Kirk Zeeck said the expansion is part of a district initiative to help students become more kindergarten-ready, and that the data shows a need. District officials told a work session on Wednesday that more students are showing up to kindergarten unprepared.

  • Goal: improve literacy rates and speed up catching up to grade level
  • Setup: a year of junior kindergarten before kindergarten
  • Next: more information expected in the coming months

The junior kindergarten plan covers full days at 15 elementary schools

The cut behind the winning plate was brand new to the kitchen just months ago. Owner Riccardo Tarabelsi said a guest asked if the team had heard of pluma, a near-the-shoulder cut that "grills like a steak." Pluma is staying on the menu for the foreseeable future.

Parking on Phillips Avenue is likely to be more costly, as is a parking ticket, after the City Council approved changes to the parking ordinance this week. More South Dakota students are graduating on time than at any point in more than 14 years, according to the School Year 2025-26 Report Card. The four-year graduation rate reached 88%, and regular attendance improved by one percentage point. Students are also making small gains in math, the Dakota News Now report says.
