SDDOT is studying 130 railroad crossings in the Sioux Falls area and wants your input

If a train has ever blocked your route, wants to know. The department has launched a monthslong study of 130 railroad crossings, checking safety hazards, how rail traffic mixes with cars and pedestrians, and how trains affect movement through urban neighborhoods.

The rail study covers 130 crossings in four communities

SDDOT planning squad leader Steve Gramm said site inspections looked at how visible the track is and how far down it a driver can see a train coming. SDDOT will merge that data with public input into a top list of crossings for improvements. Written comments are open online until Nov. 30.

However, I now have the need for it since our provider stopped service likely due to their contract termination on November 1st. It may be it sat too long and the lines are gummed…”

The Wrap

The Dakota Angler Institute wrapped up its 17th year at the Sioux Falls Convention Center, and it's a family operation. Todd Heitkamp of Dakota Angler says it's the second largest fishing show of its kind in the nation and the only one put on by a family. What began as an ice fishing event now covers open water too. Not a bad catch for our own backyard.
