  • Jacobson Plaza in downtown Sioux Falls has drawn 2800 visitors daily since it opened at the end of June — a surge that boosted Mary’s Mountain Cookies sales by 25% and led The Lodge Bar and Grill to extend its hours to 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day.  KELOLAND

CRIME NEWS

  • On Saturday at 6:39 p.m., Lincoln County deputies and SD Game Fish and Parks officers responded to a DUI investigation near the Lake Alvin boat ramp when a 46-year-old driver from Sioux Falls refused to exit her vehicle—struck a deputy and a patrol car—and then fled before crashing a few miles away; she sustained serious injuries and faces charges of aggravated assault on law enforcement, aggravated eluding, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana.  KELOLAND

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Census data shows that some South Dakota counties near Indian reservations and colleges are getting younger—high birth rates and university enrollment have shifted age groups to children and young adults, while rural areas still have more residents aged 65—69. Buffalo County now leads with 10—14-year-olds as its largest group, and counties like Campbell and McPherson have more older residents.  KELOLAND
  • Crews grounded the concrete pavement on South Cliff Avenue near Tuthill Park on Sunday, which added noise in the neighborhood; today, 59th Street is closed for a utility connection for one week. North Sycamore Avenue is closed between Producer Lane and 60th Street and Blackhawk Street remains closed between North A — B until Wednesday for utility work.  KELOLAND
  • The Biliaze family from Ukraine, living in Watertown since fleeing the war, received an extension to stay in the United States for two more years—easing their worries after they were told to leave by August 17. They said they plan to work toward a green card while settling into their new home.  KELOLAND
