- ➤ Sioux Falls Police arrested Kenneth Norman, 29, on Friday morning near Bragstad Drive after he broke into a home, stole a truck, and drove off with a woman who tried to stop him, and he was caught near 14th Street and Minnesota Avenue when he fled on foot — authorities say he now faces charges of robbery, grand theft, and fleeing police, and he was wanted in Rapid City for a shooting and parole violation. - ➤ Sioux Falls police arrested 21-year-old Geno Gehl for robbery and aggravated assault after surveillance footage and witnesses showed he punched a 32-year-old man near Indiana Avenue Thursday morning, resulting in head injuries and hospital treatment—authorities continue to investigate the incident. - ➤ Sioux Falls drivers will face overnight lane closures on I-229 near Cliff Avenue as bridge construction begins with closures set Tuesday, August 12 from 8:00 p.m. until Wednesday, August 13 at 6:00 a.m. and again Thursday, August 14 from 8:00 p.m. until Friday, August 15 at 6:00 a.m.—this work is part of a $48 million project to rebuild the interchange by June 2027. - ➤ Governor Larry Rhoden announced on Aug. 8 that the state entered into a purchase agreement to buy 148 acres in northeast Sioux Falls for a future men’s prison—details include the site’s location near Interstate 229 and a deal that saves $10 million compared with earlier estimates. The state will complete the purchase if the Legislature approves the deal at a special session on Sept. 25 and the plan involves a $1.5 million cash payment plus an exchange of Lincoln County land valued at $4.5 million.
