- ➤ Sioux Falls drivers will face overnight lane closures on I-229 near Cliff Avenue as bridge construction begins with closures set Tuesday, August 12 from 8:00 p.m. until Wednesday, August 13 at 6:00 a.m. and again Thursday, August 14 from 8:00 p.m. until Friday, August 15 at 6:00 a.m.—this work is part of a $48 million project to rebuild the interchange by June 2027. - ➤ Governor Larry Rhoden announced on Aug. 8 that the state entered into a purchase agreement to buy 148 acres in northeast Sioux Falls for a future men’s prison—details include the site’s location near Interstate 229 and a deal that saves $10 million compared with earlier estimates. The state will complete the purchase if the Legislature approves the deal at a special session on Sept. 25 and the plan involves a $1.5 million cash payment plus an exchange of Lincoln County land valued at $4.5 million.
