  • The South Dakota Heritage Military Alliance has added a new salon—Howdy Honey—that offers military men’s haircuts along with a complete range of beauty services, and a tattoo studio—Soul Fire Studio—to its lineup inside the repurposed pawn shop at 1600 W. Russell Street. The Alliance, which hosts concerts, a gun range, and community events, is open to the public from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.  KXRB

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Sioux Falls Fire & Rescue responded early Wednesday morning near the 1200 block of West 38th Street when crews discovered smoke and fire coming from the back of a home—teams quickly extinguished the moderate kitchen fire, ventilated the structure, and returned a dog to its owner with no reported injuries.  KELOLAND

CRIME NEWS

  • Three people are behind bars after an assault turned into murder and police shot and identified 23-year-old Deondre Black Hawk, who was wanted on felony charges and is linked to a Sunday shooting — authorities said. The Project Prison Reset task force removed Mitchell and Worthing from its proposals after public comments, and a broken line of storms is expected to hit western areas late this afternoon — officials explained.  KELOLAND
  • Melissa Rae Cockerham, 46, from Brandon was sentenced to five years in prison—three-and-a-half years suspended—for trying to send over more than five grams of meth to an inmate at the Sioux Falls State Penitentiary on Nov. 11, 2023.  KELOLAND

  • Sioux Falls locals can look forward to Lallycooler at Great Bear Ski Valley on July 11th and 12th as headliners Sam Hunt and Pitbull will perform—rising star Redferrin will take the stage on July 11th for live country music under open skies.  KXRB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city of Sioux Falls will vote on a plan to loan the Sioux Falls Airport Authority $5 million from its general operating reserve fund to help expand the airport concourse—this move is tied to a condition that the state gives at least $5 million and approval for airport revenue bonds. Council members say that if the loan is approved on July 15, the city attorney’s office will work with the authority on setting repayment terms.  SiouxFalls.Business

  • Mayor TenHaken completed a Planet Heart screening on July 9 in Sioux Falls near Avera Heart Hospital to check his heart health and promote regular preventive care.
