- ➤ Gage Matzen is riding a 4,228-mile route on the TransAmerica Trail after leaving Tea in early May to raise funds for the Veterans Community Project that aids homeless veterans. He is set to finish in early August in Astoria and has joined other cyclists from around the world—his ride supports veterans in Sioux Falls. KELOLAND

- ➤ Jamee Kattner from Huron was crowned Miss South Dakota this Saturday night in Brookings after twenty competitors vied for the title; she earned a $13,000 scholarship + a $500 South Dakota Strong award and will represent South Dakota at the Miss America pageant in September. KELOLAND
- ➤ Madeleine Scott founded South Dakota Ballet as the state's first professional ballet company, but lost donors forced cancellation of a planned Nutcracker collaboration this year—raising concerns over funding for the local arts scene. The company will host a summer intensive program at capacity, and city arts coordinator Maren Engel is implementing new strategies to support Sioux Falls' creative community—despite ongoing budget challenges.
