- ➤ Gage Matzen is riding a 4,228-mile route on the TransAmerica Trail after leaving Tea in early May to raise funds for the Veterans Community Project that aids homeless veterans. - ➤ Madeleine Scott founded South Dakota Ballet as the state's first professional ballet company, but lost donors forced cancellation of a planned Nutcracker collaboration this year—raising concerns over funding for the local arts scene. The company will host a summer intensive program at capacity, and city arts coordinator Maren Engel is implementing new strategies to support Sioux Falls' creative community—despite ongoing budget challenges.
