  • Siouxland Libraries will adjust rural branch hours beginning Jan. 2 to better match community needs, and expanded access (available from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.) will let visitors use library services beyond staffed hours.  City of Sioux Falls
  • Siouxland Libraries will adjust hours at eight rural branches starting Jan. 2 to better match community needs and improve service efficiency. The new schedule includes Expanded Access (9:00 AM to 9:00 PM) at several branches for added convenience.  KXRB

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sioux Falls residents have watched recent store closures, and now Starbucks plans to close around 400 locations nationwide. The coffee chain said it will roll out new store designs in 2026 — with most future cuts targeting larger metros.  KXRB
  • Bayt al Jamal opens today at 2007 S. Minnesota Ave. with a 12-hour grand opening offering authentic Arabic apparel, accessories, perfumes and treats like Sudanese chai tea and Arabic coffee. Owner Gisma Ali traveled to Dubai for rare quality goods and expects shoppers to enjoy a new authentic experience.  SiouxFalls.Business
  • Remedy Brewing changed its kitchen setup by leasing a food truck from Backyard BBQ on Dec. 30 to offer a new menu. Chefs began serving fresh dishes like a Beer Hall Burger and fried chicken sandwich to attract more visitors.  SiouxFalls.Business

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Oak View Branch Library reopened on Thursday, Dec. 18 after four months of renovations that added an automated book return, a mother's room, study spaces named after trees, and an outdoor courtyard for reading.  Argus Leader

  • Sam Slaby is this week’s Up-and-Comer as the wastewater operations manager at the city’s Water Reclamation Department (he began in 2014 after working in the energy industry and now leads a team of 70).  SiouxFalls.Business
  • West Cherry Hill Drive and Hercules Avenue will close at the intersection at 4:00 p.m. today for a firework display by Fireworkz, and the street is set to reopen Thursday, Jan. 1. Drivers should use caution and choose alternate routes near the closure.  City of Sioux Falls

  • Local restaurants are offering New Year's Eve specials and party packages, while The Bar (1004 S. Six Mile Road) has unveiled a new menu with daily specials starting Monday; several eateries have updated their January hours to welcome the new year.  SiouxFalls.Business

  • On Dec. 30, a new two-story home built by Trademark Homes in Tea along Nine Mile Lake sold for $1M, topping this week’s sales report. The 2,600 sqft house has four bedrooms and four bathrooms, according to public records.  SiouxFalls.Business
