  • Siouxland Libraries selected True Biz by Sara Nović as the 2026 One Book Siouxland title to unite readers around a shared reading experience. The community will have discussions and events throughout April — exploring themes of Deaf culture, identity, and resilience.  City of Sioux Falls

  • Family members Lynn and Eric Peterson and their sister Carrie Pederson opened The Peterson Group—an office of Transworld Business Advisors—in southeastern Sioux Falls on Nov. 26; they will use their community banking and real estate experience to help business buyers and sellers across the state.  SiouxFalls.Business

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On November 24, soybean industry leaders said a new China trade pledge raised prices from about $9 to over $10 per bushel, but many farmers remained anxious about relying on a single buyer—farmers who sold early missed the gains while government aid for tariff losses is expected within two weeks.  Argus Leader

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Early today, the National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Watch for Sioux Falls that is effective Friday afternoon until Saturday evening, and heavy snow with 4 to 7 inches is expected—making travel difficult.  KXRB
  • Sioux Falls will see moderate snowfall starting Friday afternoon through Saturday morning that may make travel dangerous with over 3 inches expected, and heavier snow is forecast east into Minnesota or Iowa — drivers should be cautious.  KXRB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sioux Falls residents are rushing to finish yard work as the free leaf and branch drop-off sites close at end of business Sunday (located at North Lyon Boulevard near the Sioux Empire Fairgrounds and Chambers Street near the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility). The city will reopen sites for real Christmas trees on December 26.  KXRB
  • Sioux Falls issued holiday safety reminders that include tips on cooking fire safety, proper disposal of fats, and recycling holiday items. The City announced free Christmas tree drop sites available from Dec. 26th to Jan. 4th—residents are also advised to sign up for snow alerts to stay informed about winter weather.  City of Sioux Falls
  • Liz Renner, a fisheries biologist who once worked at Gavins Point National Fish Hatchery and accepted a buyout after job cuts in early 2024, now works as a post-doctoral researcher and warns young scholars to explore private or nonprofit roles as federal positions face budget cuts. She splits her time between Lyons and Lincoln—cautioning that reduced staff may make future federal jobs more competitive.  Argus Leader
