COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Helping Kids Round First held a fundraiser Thursday night in Sioux Falls where former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper spoke to inspire support for the nonprofit, which has grown from providing baseball equipment to kids in Nicaragua to offering food, farming supplies, pharmaceuticals, crops and daycare services in refugee camps in Africa—drawing on his own experience of being adopted and raised by community mentors.  KELOLAND
  • Sioux Falls offers a busy day today with the new interactive exhibit Space Explorers: Mission Infinity at the Kirby Science Discovery Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.—the U.S. Olympic Curling Trials at Denny Sanford PREMIER Center running events from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.—and a range of local indoor markets, craft fairs, job fairs and movie showings across town.  KELOLAND

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Rosie’s Cafe will reopen its Madison Street location in early December after a six-month break, with signature dishes like Country Fried Steak and famous cheeseburgers returning under new owners Tom Hinrichs and Barry Selland—updating its menu with classic comfort foods and fresh twists. The restaurant has served local fans for 41 years and now aims to continue its long-loved legacy.  KXRB
  • Sweetgrass Soapery, a downtown store selling bath and beauty products and Native American beadwork, will close before Christmas—its handcrafted items will continue to be available online and at vendor events.   • Sioux Falls’ Old Courthouse Museum now features the 'Parades, Picnics and Pageants' exhibit that shows how South Dakotans celebrated milestones, including a KELOLAND Gold Rush display from 1961. The exhibit is free and will be on view (through 2026) at the museum (open daily).  KELOLAND

ECONOMY NEWS

  • South Dakota is the nation’s top hemp fiber producer and a new processing facility near Wakonda will open by the end of the year to meet growing demand—federal lawmakers have approved rules limiting THC in hemp products that may force local processors to adjust their practices.  South Dakota News Watch

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Laney Andrews from Beresford received a national FFA placement award for her supervised agricultural experience, which she documented over six years on her family's swine operation (including two 2,400-head finisher barns and a 2,400-head nursery barn). She also serves as the state FFA treasurer and studies agricultural leadership and economics at SDSU.  KELOLAND
  • College campuses across South Dakota are getting fresh mental health support from nonprofit Lost&Found, which has set up peer-led groups to help students adjust to college life. At Augustana, chapter president Emma Knott leads 70 members in monthly events that teach them to seek help when they feel lonely and anxious.  KELOLAND

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • SNAP recipients are waiting at the Faith Temple Food Giveaway after a government shutdown led to only part of their benefits being paid, and the remaining payments will be issued in a second installment later this month — this leaves many concerned about affording their basic needs.  KELOLAND
  • Sioux Falls Housing and Redevelopment Commission will host an affordable housing tour next week as part of Stand Up For Housing events, where local non-profit leaders and district representatives will visit sites such as the Residences at Greenway apartments and Hidden Valley Stables+ the tour aims to show quality housing options made possible with state, federal and local support and underscores the need for more workforce homes.  KELOLAND
  • Sioux Falls drivers will have less traffic as the southbound lanes of I-229 open again on Wednesday, November 19th between Minnesota Avenue and East 26th Street—although the ramps at Exit 4 will stay closed for signal work until late November. Northbound lanes will remain two-lane until crews finish their work in early December.  KXRB

HEALTH NEWS

  • South Dakota applied for $1 billion in federal rural health funds to upgrade its care system—half of the money is set to improve telehealth and data-sharing by creating a Health Data Atlas. The plan will help boost access in rural areas and is under review with decisions expected by year’s end.  Argus Leader

  • The Dell Rapids St. Mary football team scored 30 points in the first quarter and beat Avon 54-6 for the 9B state championship on Thursday. Lincoln LeBrun rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns and was named Joe Robbie MVP as the Cardinals ended the season 12-0.  KELOLAND
