COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sioux Falls Humane Society has paused all dog adoptions and surrenders after one dog showed signs of illness over the weekend. The agency is testing for the cause and deep cleaning its facility—cat and small animal adoptions continue as usual.  KXRB
  • On November 8, families in Sioux Falls will gather at Tuthill Park for the third Annual Great Pumpkin Roll where leftover Halloween pumpkins will be rolled down a hill in contests—prizes will be awarded and pumpkin-flavored snacks, crafts, and a reading of It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown will follow. The event will begin at 1 p.m. with competitions scheduled for 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.  KXRB
  • Area grocers stepped up to help nearly 35,000 households without SNAP benefits by launching initiatives that include free kids meals and food donation drives; Hy-Vee served free meals for those 12 and under from 4—7 p.m. through Friday while Fareway matched all contributions to support local food banks.  SiouxFalls.Business
  • Next Saturday, November 8, the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society and Schulte Subaru will offer pet portrait sessions at the service bay on 7601 S. Minnesota Avenue from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a break from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.—the $50 sessions provide 3 to 5 ready-to-send photos using one of four festive backgrounds, and appointments can be booked online until November 7 at noon while walk-ins are welcome.  KXRB

  • Retail centers at Stadium Crossing in south Sioux Falls are nearing completion as The Back Nine Golf opens for 24/7 indoor golfing while Arcana Lash Co. gets ready for a ribbon cutting Thursday, Nov. 6 (the site already hosts a mix of food, services, and living spaces).   • Kidtopia, a toy store in Dawley Farm Village that has brought joy for 18 years, announced it will close soon and is holding a going out of business sale with discounts of up to 75% on toys, fixtures, and its playhouse. The store remains open for holiday shopping with hours from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and Noon to 6:00 p.m. on Sundays — new shipments will still arrive until closing.  KXRB
  • Plaza Azteca opened its long-awaited east-side restaurant yesterday at 5919 E. 26th St, near 26th Street and Veterans Parkway; it now serves an expanded menu with five new dishes and a tableside guacamole cart + fresh fruit margaritas. The upscale restaurant seats 150 guests, features a casino area with 10 video lottery machines + and will offer patio dining next year.  SiouxFalls.Business
  • First Dakota National Bank has renamed its ag lending division from Dakota Mac to Landera – a move designed to support farmers facing tighter margins and to expand services into Nebraska and Iowa. Executives explained that the new name reflects a commitment to the agricultural legacy while addressing challenges in today’s farming economy.  KELOLAND
  • Swamp Daddy's Cajun Kitchen in downtown Sioux Falls plans to downsize its bar area in the Jones 421 Building on North Phillips Avenue to improve financial stability—this change comes after the restaurant reopened last August following an eight‐month closure due to a glycol leak. The 1,115‐square‐foot space is now available for lease at $2,751 per month.  KXRB

  • Augustana University will host its 88th annual Christmas Vespers at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church with performances on Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 6 at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.—the event, themed O Come Let Us Adore Him, will also be available via livestream.  SiouxFalls.Business

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Sioux Falls was on track for its second-best building year after October brought $195 million in new permits. The permits included $115 million for CJ Schwan’s Asian food production facility—more than half of the total—and also covered $10.4 million for a new bank branch and $4.5 million for an addition to Levitt at the Falls.  SiouxFalls.Business

  • The South Dakota Board of Regents today announced four finalists for Northern State University’s next president. The finalists—Dr. Amy Clark, Dr. Alan LaFave, Dr. Erin Fouberg, and Dr. Matt Seimears—will visit campus November 5-6 to meet with local leaders, faculty, staff, and students.  KELOLAND

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation will host an open house at the Westside Recreation Center at 8701 West 32nd Street on Thursday, Nov. 6 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Community members will view renderings for the new Kuehn Park Aquatic Center—learn about bidding and construction plans expected to begin in early 2026 while keeping the current pool open during construction.  City of Sioux Falls
