  • During the 8th Annual Native American Day Parade in Downtown Sioux Falls, a horse broke free from its handlers and caused a stir—local horse trainer Jaquin from Santee used his riding skills to safely capture it near E 15th Street and S 1st Ave with help from the police.  KXRB

  • On Oct. 14, 2025, Roundhouse Brew Pub switched its beer production to local Remedy Brewing Co. — the pub now brews its own recipes, including the golden ale Pontoon, after the Minnesota brewery gave up its multi-state license.  SiouxFalls.Business
  • Sioux Falls-based Silencer Central is suing FedEx for negligent misrepresentation and breach of contract after the carrier reversed its plan to ship suppressor products directly to customers. The firm seeks reimbursement for its losses and a change in FedEx’s firearm shipping policy—reportedly the only carrier that bans direct firearm shipments.  KELOLAND

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Pettigrew Home and Museum, built in 1889 just west of downtown Sioux Falls, honors Richard F. Pettigrew, the state’s first U.S. Senator, by preserving original furnishings and artifacts such as a Tiffany chandelier—offering free access to a glimpse of life in late 19th-century Sioux Falls.  KELOLAND

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Christ the King Elementary School on South Lake Avenue will close after the 2025-2026 academic year due to rising costs and low enrollment—its students will join other Bishop O’Gorman Catholic schools.  KXRB
  • Mount Marty University announced its 12th president — Mark Brown, a professor from its Sioux Falls campus who developed the biotechnology management program — after a nationwide search; he will replace retiring president Marc Long at the end of the year.  KTIV
  • South Dakota schools could lose millions in special education funding if proposed budget cuts and a federal funding freeze continue—after nearly all of the Office of Special Education’s staff was removed, putting over $18 million in IDEA funds at risk.  KXRB

  • On Oct. 14, 2025, Sgt. Aaron Benson, the Sioux Falls Police public information officer, was honored as this week’s Up-and-Comer. Born and raised locally, he uses his role to share police news through social media, press releases, and community events—keeping residents informed about law enforcement work.  SiouxFalls.Business
  • On October 14, 2025, lanes on South Western Avenue shifted west to manage traffic during an emergency sewer repair by First Rate Excavate—drivers were urged to slow down and consider alternate routes near the work zone.  City of Sioux Falls
  • Sioux Falls has introduced talking cones in downtown to help pedestrians, especially those who are visually impaired, navigate construction zones—using sensors to deliver real-time audio alerts on detours and sidewalk closures. The city plans to expand this program to busy work areas in the near future.  KXRB

HEALTH NEWS

  • Avera partners with Coffea to offer a cherry pie latte for Breast Cancer Awareness Month — 50% of the proceeds will be donated to the Avera Foundation to support breast cancer patients. The fundraiser is held at three Coffea locations on Louise Avenue, Phillips Avenue, and Highline Place and runs through the end of October.  KELOLAND
  • People donated blood in downtown Sioux Falls Tuesday at the Harvesting Hope Blood Drive—hosted by KELOLAND Media Group for the Community Blood Bank as donors like longtime contributor Sara Hyser helped supply blood for local hospitals.  KELOLAND
  • The South Dakota Department of Health confirmed four influenza cases this flu season—two in Minnehaha, one in Pennington, and one in Fall River County. The cases include two individuals aged 25–49 and two over 64, and none have required hospitalization.  KELOLAND

  • Restaurants and bars in Sioux Falls have prepared 48 spooky seasonal drinks for Halloween (including non-alcoholic choices) as the holiday nears in less than 25 days.  KXRB
