COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sioux Falls Jaycees started their Feargrounds haunted house Friday night with a theme that urges visitors to face their fears. The event, open weekends through Halloween, enforces strict rules—no touching actors or props—and uses part of its ticket proceeds for community projects.  KELOLAND
  • Sioux Falls and nearby towns offer a variety of pre-Halloween events this Saturday — including haunted houses at local venues, a trick or treat event at Lake Lorraine from 1 to 3 p.m., and a free children’s building block competition at Habitat for Humanity’s Restore building with check-in at 9 a.m. Additional attractions include craft workshops, sports card shows, pumpkin picking, seasonal farmers markets and local film screenings for a fun-filled community weekend.  KELOLAND
  • Sioux Falls is hosting a variety of family Halloween events this October—today's events include free trick-or-treating at Lake Lorraine from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and at Jacobson Plaza from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., with additional festivities planned later at the Great Plains Zoo, Big Sioux Recreation Area and downtown.  KXRB

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sioux Falls Planning and Development Services Department is inviting residents to help shape a new arts and culture plan that will guide local priorities for the next decade. A community input session is set for Tuesday, October 14th from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Orpheum Theater — residents can also share their views by phone, email, or online.  City of Sioux Falls
  • JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cigars hosted a parking lot party on Oct. 10 to celebrate Spooncat!'s induction into the South Dakota Rock & Roll Hall of Fame at the north parking lot at 3000 W. 57th St.; gates opened at 5 p.m. and live music began at 6 p.m. with acts including Dan Mahar, Goodroad, and Spooncat! closing the night at 9 p.m. — the free event required attendees to be 21 and offered rideshare drop-off zones and food from Valentino’s Pizza.  SiouxFalls.Business

HEALTH NEWS

  • Three Sioux Falls organizations (The Compass Center, Family Services, Inc. and Move to Heal) are uniting to form the region’s first Integrated Healing Agency (Solace) to provide coordinated crisis, therapy and healing arts services. The agency will serve over 1,000 people through crisis intervention, nearly 900 clients with clinical therapy and almost 100 youth with trauma-informed programs.  KELOLAND

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Thanksgiving weather in Sioux Falls is unpredictable with temperatures ranging from a warm 67 to below freezing, which may challenge travel for family gatherings. Historical records show most days are dry, though a few Thanksgivings have seen notable snow — a reminder that holiday weather can vary widely.  KXRB

  • The Sioux Falls Home Expo is set for October 24 to 26 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center and Sioux Falls Arena—this free event will give local and national experts a chance to offer advice on home improvements like kitchen remodels and outdoor living spaces.  KXRB

SPORTS NEWS

  • Sioux Falls Cougars volleyball team defeated Winona State 3-1 at the Stewart Center—improving their record to 10-6 overall and 5-3 in NSIC play. They will host Concordia-St. Paul today at 2 p.m. at the same venue.  KELOLAND
  • Hunters Pointe held a windy target practice today as 100 local participants prepared for the resident-only pheasant hunting season that opens this weekend — Border States Electric hosted the event, and the traditional season opener is set for next Saturday.  KELOLAND
  • The Canaries announced that the Banana Ball World Tour will come to the Birdcage in Sioux Falls next summer when the Firefighters face the Indianapolis Clowns on August 27, 28 and 29 + the game uses new rules where fans catch balls for outs while players perform acrobatic flips and dances. The venue holds about 4,700 fans expected to see this unique twist on baseball.  KELOLAND
  • Sioux Falls will host Banana Ball World Tour in 2026 at the Birdcage—where the Firefighters will play the Indianapolis Clowns on August 27-29—in the first event of its kind in South Dakota. A ticket lottery opens October 9 at 7:30 p.m. CT and runs until October 31.  KELOLAND
