  • SoDak Circuit returns on Oct. 11 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center as a free, all-ages esports tournament hosted by SDN Communications — this second season features competitions in Super Smash Bros.   • Local filmmaker Nick Simon’s new horror—comedy film 'Coyotes' premiered in Austin and will be shown in Sioux Falls soon. The movie, nearly a decade in production, follows a family who fights off killer coyotes and a wildfire from their home.  KXRB
  • Sioux Falls Cattitude Café will hold its first-ever comedy night with local comedian Skyler Bolks on Friday, October 24 at 7 PM—tickets are sold out as the event aims to boost support for local cat adoptions and the business during a recent decline in visitors.   • Great Plains Zoo CEO Becky Dewitz announced the Joe H. Floyd Education Center on October 8 at the zoo, with Floyd’s family, friends + Midco representatives in attendance. The center will begin construction soon to honor Floyd’s legacy.  Argus Leader

  • The South Dakota Supreme Court heard arguments today in a case over a sinkhole that opened in a Black Hawk neighborhood in 2020—residents' lawyers say the state caused damage while state officials claim the developer knew about the underground gypsum mine.  KELOLAND

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sioux Falls Fire Rescue is joining fire departments nationwide for National Fire Prevention Week, held October 5—11, 2025, to remind residents about safe use of rechargeable lithium-ion batteries in everyday devices. The fire rescue urges residents to buy certified products, charge using the manufacturer’s charger, and recycle used batteries at the local household hazardous waste facility.  City of Sioux Falls
  • The Bryan Boys Benefit—Western Casino Night and Auction will take place Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m. at Icon Event Hall in downtown Sioux Falls to raise $800,000 needed for lifesaving gene therapy for boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Almost $350,000 has been raised so far and community supporters are urged to donate via the silent auction as the family races against time to begin the groundbreaking treatment.  SiouxFalls.Business
  • Dr. Kelly McKnight at Avera Orthopedics said that patients may be awake during hand surgery using the WALANT procedure — a method that uses local anesthesia and epinephrine instead of a tourniquet. She added that this technique lets patients talk with their surgeon during the operation and may help speed up recovery.  SiouxFalls.Business

  • Closed house sales in Sioux Falls dropped over 20% in September—with 174 sold compared to 220 the previous year—while median prices rose 6% to $338,400 and inventory fell 29%, causing homes to average 88 days on the market.
