- ➤ Today, Sioux Falls hosts the Festival of Bands with a parade starting at 8:30 a.m. on Phillips Avenue—field competitions follow at Howard Wood Field at 11:30 a.m. and finals at 5:45 p.m. Additional events include home tours from noon to 5 p.m., a quilt show at the Convention Center with a veterans presentation at 1 p.m., an interactive Day of Play at the Urban Adventure Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.—a Buddy Walk at Pasley Park with Scot Mundt, a free beginner ballet class at Balleraena Dance Studio, a Pumpkin Train ride in Madison from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., local corn mazes, a 5K Spook & Sprint at Camp Leif Ericson starting at 7 p.m., movie screenings at the State Theater and CineDome, and the Stampede hockey home opener at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center at 6:05 p.m. KELOLAND
- ➤ On Oct.2, the Sioux Falls Ballooning Association set up a colorful hot air balloon at Falls Park while President Alex Augustad and his group offered rides to first-time flyers Emily and Andrew. - ➤ Sioux Falls-based Eilers Furs acquired the customer base of Dubuque-based Rhomberg Furs after its owner retired and closed the last store this summer—adding territories in Iowa along with communities such as Dakota Dunes, Aberdeen, Rapid City, Rochester, Mankato, Minneapolis, Fargo, Bismarck and Marquette, MI while continuing to operate under the Eilers name from its location on 2425 S. - ➤ On October 3rd, a bankruptcy judge approved a reorganization plan for At Home that will allow the retailer to continue operating and keep its Sioux Falls store at 1601 W. 41st St. open—its ownership will transfer to lenders led by Redwood Capital Management in the coming weeks after filing for bankruptcy in June. - ➤ Kwik Trip/Kwik Star will round down cash payments to the nearest five cents as it prepares for the U.S. Treasury's decision to stop minting pennies in January 2026—this change will affect all cash transactions while card payments remain unchanged. KXRB

- ➤ South Dakota Symphony Orchestra will launch its 2025 to 2026 season this weekend with Spanish Passion, a performance that mixes powerful rhythm and drama with local cultural traditions. - ➤ Levo Credit Union is awarding $500 to each of eight teachers through its Adopt a Classroom program — which began in 2014 to support classroom supplies. Nominations must be submitted by December 26 and winners will be named on January 16. KELOLAND
- ➤ The University of South Dakota has withdrawn its intent to fire Professor Michael Hook after his social media post about Charlie Kirk’s death triggered controversy — a judge restored his teaching duties on Sept. 24 and his lawsuit over First Amendment rights will no longer move forward. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Larry Rhoden and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem attended a naturalization ceremony at Mount Rushmore on Thursday, where 72 new citizens swore the Oath of Allegiance; Representative Dusty Johnson and others praised the event—emphasizing a strong commitment to defending the Constitution. - ➤ Gov. Larry Rhoden ordered the Capitol flags to fly at half-staff today to honor former Rep. Charles Droz—a 101-year-old Miller native and World War II veteran who served 13 years in the House and was speaker from 1965 to 1966. He will be buried today at the G.A.R. - ➤ Pavement repairs will begin on I-90 near Sioux Falls on October 6 and will affect both eastbound and westbound lanes — drivers should expect single-lane traffic until May 2026. KXRB
