COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Keep KELOLAND Warm is active and collects new and gently used coats, gloves, hats, and scarves to help residents stay warm this winter. Donations may be dropped off at any Sioux Falls Lewis store—except downtown—or at the St. Francis House until November 26th with further collections planned.  KELOLAND
  • South Dakota loses about 1 hour and 28 minutes of daylight in October as Sioux Falls sunrise shifts from 7:25 a.m. on Oct. 2nd to 8:01 a.m. on Oct. 31st—this change alters outdoor routines. The Sioux Falls Great Plains Zoo invites visitors to help name the new snow leopard baby while it stays with its mother, Denali, until the exhibit changes.  KXRB

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Fareway Meat & Grocery purchased land on Marion Road near Jefferson High School in Sioux Falls for a new 21,000-square-foot store—no construction timeline has been set yet. The store is part of the Boyce Park development that will add more retail options to the area.  SiouxFalls.Business
  • Kwik Star in Sioux Falls announced a new cash policy that rounds down purchases to the nearest five cents because the U.S. Treasury stopped producing pennies—card transactions remain unchanged.  KELOLAND
  • Sioux Falls gas stations are changing as Kum & Go leaves the city, with Mega Saver taking over at 501 North Minnesota Avenue, 6001 South Western Avenue, and 7100 West 41st Street. Four other former Kum & Go sites have become Casey’s, and their stores will continue to offer the same food, drink, and fuel products without planned changes.  KELOLAND
  • On Oct. 2, Brady Fopma led his team at Click Rain in creating user-friendly websites built for excellence using Craft CMS to boost security and streamline content editing. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 7, West 42nd Street and its south sidewalk will be closed from South Minnesota Avenue to South Center Avenue for underground work by Pro Underground LLC. The work is scheduled to finish by the end of Tuesday, October 28 — drivers are advised to use caution and consider alternate routes.  City of Sioux Falls
  • Beginning Tuesday, October 7, 2025, crews will work on the West 41st Street Bridge to preserve its safety while keeping two-way traffic open, and MidAmerican Energy will start utility work on South Western Avenue at 8:30 a.m. during which parking and lanes will shift—drivers are urged to allow extra travel time until the project finishes on October 8.  KXRB
  • Sioux Falls Public Works announced that road projects will continue throughout October—crews will repair West 26th Street’s curbs and ADA ramps before milling and overlay, start milling on North Marion Road with temporary closures, and install steel girders on South Veterans Parkway as paving and overlay work also begin on Sycamore Avenue and Rice Street. Projects will finish by October 10 on Rice Street and around Thanksgiving on Sycamore Avenue, and drivers are asked for patience during the work.  KELOLAND

HEALTH NEWS

  • Larissa Strong, whose daughter died in February 2024, will host Hailey's Legacy Rally for Suicide Awareness and Prevention tomorrow at The Mosaic in Sioux Falls from 4-6 p.m. - Local groups and author Havva Ramadan will join the event to share grief and support mental health with a slideshow, T-shirt sales and a donation drive.  Argus Leader

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Residents are advised to prepare their homes for winter by sealing windows and doors and checking furnaces, pipes and safety devices for leaks and proper function—measures that include caulking and weather stripping. They should also stock essential supplies like medications, flashlights and nonperishable food to be ready if heavy snow blocks roads.  KXRB
  • Sioux Falls residents can enjoy free tacos on Saturday, October 4 with any purchase at Dahlia Kitchen and Bar at The Steel District from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The restaurant limits customers to two tacos per person from a menu of five tasty varieties.  KXRB

  • An early 2000s Sioux Falls townhome underwent extensive changes as a small sunroom remodel grew into a complete main floor update — replacing doors, millwork, flooring, and a wall while reconfiguring the kitchen and dining area. The home is one of 11 projects in the Showcase of Remodeled Homes event running from noon to 5 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday — giving visitors a chance to tour and gather ideas.  SiouxFalls.Business
