  • Sioux Falls families will attend Zion Lutheran’s Trunk and Treat on October 26 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., where they will enjoy games, crafts, festive treats, a digital scavenger hunt with prizes, and appearances by local heroes including police and firefighters.  KXRB
  • Augustina Osabutey works as a water quality analyst in Sioux Falls and writes children’s books that teach about clean water, soil, and air quality—stories that support her nonprofit projects. Born in Ghana, she moved here to be near family and improve public health while planning to start a local book printing business.  SiouxFalls.Business
  • In September, local businesses and organizations gave back by awarding grants, volunteering and matching donations — the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation alone awarded over $105,000 to help nonprofits. Other groups like Sioux Valley Energy, Xcel Energy, Cresten Properties, First Interstate Bank, Pathward and Rudy M.   • Residents in southeast KELOLAND and Sioux Falls are being bitten by tiny Minute Pirate Bugs that normally control pests in fields but now feed in parks and yards until the first hard freeze. SDSU Urban Entomologist Amanda Bachmann said the bugs cause a sharp bite—people should wear long sleeves and pants to protect their skin.  KELOLAND

  • The state health department reported 74 West Nile virus cases—and four deaths—in South Dakota as of Sept. 26.  Argus Leader

  • A recent WalletHub report ranks Sioux Falls 13th among the best places to retire, placing it 25th in affordability, 142nd in activities, 50th in quality of life, and third in health care — the study compared 182 cities — showing strong health care access for retirees.  Argus Leader
