  • Luverne will host its 74th annual Tri-State Band Festival on September 27—three Sioux Falls high schools join 13 bands in a parade of 12 marching bands and a field competition of eight bands, offering a festive fall celebration in the town.  KXRB
  • The Washington Pavilion in downtown Sioux Falls is hosting Art After Dark this Thursday night from 6:00 to 9:00, offering visitors hands-on art experiences with curator-led tours and collage making.   • Beginning on Thursday, September 25, 72nd Street North will be closed between North Seubert Avenue and 476th Avenue for water main, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage improvements.   • The South Dakota Senate narrowly approved a governor-led bill to purchase land in northeast Sioux Falls for a new 1,500-bed men's prison costing $650 million—lawmakers said the measure now moves to the House floor amid concerns about recidivism and rehabilitation.  Argus Leader
  • Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation earned a perfect score on its CAPRA reaccreditation review on September 23, reaffirming its position as a top agency with a five-year accreditation period — only about 1 percent of agencies nationwide have received this recognition.   • Gov. Larry Rhoden addressed the legislature on September 23 in a joint session in Sioux Falls to discuss a proposal for a new $650 million men's prison on a 148-acre site for 1,500 inmates.
