COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bill Pay, a 98-year-old photographer and founding member of the Wednesday Study Group, still captures Sioux Falls history with his camera and meets weekly at Minervas—he once worked for the coroner’s office and has seen downtown change over the decades.  KELOLAND

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Rice Street between Cleveland Avenue and Veterans Parkway will close for mill and overlay work, Reid Place south of Sixth Street will close for concrete repairs, and the North Drive Bridge will close for repairs with drivers detoured via North Minnesota Avenue, North Fourth Avenue and East Benson Road. Rice Street work is expected to finish in three weeks, Reid Place repairs will finish within the week and bridge repairs will be completed in late October—key projects affecting Sioux Falls traffic.  KELOLAND
  • Sioux Falls City Council Vice Chair Jennifer Sigette is gathering resident input with an anonymous survey mailed to 3,000 households and available online starting Oct. 10 until Oct. 24. Council members said the survey will guide decisions on issues such as scholarships, recycling, parks and public safety — offering a broader picture of community priorities.  KELOLAND
  • South Dakota state government boards and commissions have planned a full week of public meetings starting today with a conservation teleconference in Huron and a property tax session at the Capitol. Additional meetings in Pierre, Rapid City and Sioux Falls include a special legislative session on a new prison plan and a public hearing on updated plumbing codes — schedules may change due to weather.  KELOLAND

SPORTS NEWS

  • Over 2000 runners competed in the Sioux Falls Marathon on Sunday in full, half and 5K races. Organizers celebrated the return of the full marathon after its cancellation last year + noted that athletes came from 48 states and countries like Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico.  KELOLAND
