- ➤ Downtown Riverfest will be held this Saturday, September 20 at Cherapa Place along the Big Sioux River where local musicians including The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys, The Teels and Jamie Lynn & the Trio will perform live and a river cleanup will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The festival will offer food vendors, family activities and outdoor fun from 2 to 8 p.m.—attendees are encouraged to arrive early for parking. - ➤ Siouxland Libraries celebrates National Library Card Sign-up Month as over 83,000 residents already have a library card. The library is launching a three-year campaign to double card holders and requires a photo ID—recent mail is needed—to sign up and access books, digital audiobooks, job resources, and classes. - ➤ The former Royal Fork building at 4610 W Empire Place in Sioux Falls remains empty five years after the beloved buffet closed—locals now propose ideas such as a burger joint or a bookstore on the Empire Mall campus. - ➤ Friends of the Big Sioux River will host its first fundraising gala — River Revival — on Sept. 19 at Cherapa Interconnect in downtown Sioux Falls, and the event will feature a rooftop social with cocktails, live jazz and auctions to raise funds for protecting the Big Sioux River as a key source of drinking water and recreation. - ➤ Jack Rose Social Club opened in downtown Sioux Falls on Sept 17 in a 6,400-square-foot space at 151 E. Fourth Place, part of The Steel District that also houses condos, a parking ramp, and loft apartments. The locally owned bar, which shares its menu with its 69th Street and Western Avenue location, features a custom steel design, booth seating, two patios and casino areas with 10 video lottery machines each and operates from 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday. - ➤ Asian Cuisine Express bought the former Taco John's building on 41st Street and is waiting for a permit to remodel it into a fast-food Asian restaurant with a drive-thru and seating for 60 to 70 guests—a renovation set to take three to five months once construction begins. SiouxFalls.Business
- ➤ Over the summer, POET welcomed 40 interns who learned lab techniques and built relationships with experienced team members—boosting biofuels research and projects across the heartland. - ➤ Officials reported that the August financial report showed Sioux Falls had the lowest unemployment among U.S. cities with nearly a 3% gap from the national 4.6% rate—11,000 job openings and 3,100 unemployed workers have made hiring challenging for local businesses.
