  • Sioux Falls will host the 62nd Annual Sidewalk Arts Festival this Saturday—downtown streets near the Washington Pavilion will be closed to over 280 vendors and local artists showcasing crafts and food.  KELOLAND

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Cafe Breadico opened on Sept. 3 in downtown Sioux Falls inside the Bancorp Building along the Big Sioux River—offering residents a welcome new dining spot.  Argus Leader
  • Kristen Hermes from Onida won the Best Bagger Competition on August 30 at the South Dakota State Fair, earning a $500 prize—she will represent the state at the National Grocers Association’s Best Bagger Championship in Las Vegas.  KXRB
  • Doggy Den Suites opened earlier this year at 3520 S. Gateway Lane offering pets kennels or bedroom suites with twin beds, TVs and windows for outdoor views. Owner Ann Anderson built the 13,000-square-foot facility with doggy day care and agility equipment available for drop-off play between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. — prices start at $65 per suite and drop by $10 for each additional dog.  SiouxFalls.Business
  • Crosstown Vinyl, a downtown record store selling vintage records and CDs, moved to a bright new space at 401 E. Eighth St., Suite 105 in the 8th & Railroad Center after its previous location proved too large—owner Steve Zastrow said the change offers a more efficient layout for the business.  SiouxFalls.Business

  • Downtown Sioux Falls drives citywide growth with 17,000 jobs in over 800 businesses that earn 10 times more property tax per acre than other areas — local leaders and companies like Pathward use downtown spaces to host meetings and support community programs which boost quality of life.  SiouxFalls.Business
  • South Dakota Biotech Summit is set for Oct. 27-28 at The Catlin Hotel — the event opens on Oct. 27 with a fireside chat by Robert Fouberg and continues on Oct. 28 with sessions on innovation, rural healthcare and policy. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • West Madison Street was closed between Lyndale Avenue and Western Avenue beginning on September 4th for repairs — City workers expected to reopen the street later that day. Drivers were advised to take alternate routes — and use extra caution near the construction area.  City of Sioux Falls
  • Sioux Falls drivers face new traffic patterns on I-29 today as DOT activates new lanes on the southbound bridges over 12th Street and the Ellis & Eastern Railroad — the configuration will remain until October 10 while work on the remaining lanes continues ahead of full project completion on October 17.  KXRB
  • Sioux Falls is seeking public feedback on its long-range growth plan Shape Sioux Falls 2050 that outlines a framework for future city growth. City staff attended the Lake Lorraine Farmers Market on Sept. 4 from 4 to 7 p.m. and will join Downtown Riverfest on Sept. 20 from 2 to 8 p.m. and an open house at the downtown library on Oct. 6 before the plan goes to the Planning Commission and City Council.  Argus Leader
