COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sioux Falls will have a busy weekend of community events. Residents will visit the Washington Pavilion for free art and science exhibits on Friday, enjoy a downtown arts festival and high school football games on Saturday, and have a pancake breakfast + Homesteader Day celebration on Sunday.  KXRB

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sioux Falls-based Soo Sports will join Vern Eide Marine when the acquisition closes on Sept. 8 — the business will operate as Soo Sports at Vern Eide Marine and relocate to 4501 E. Arrowhead Parkway over the coming weeks. The deal keeps all 10 employees and will expand boat and accessory options with Vern Eide’s resources.  SiouxFalls.Business
  • Vern Eide Marine will acquire Soo Sports on Sept. 8 and rename the boat dealership Soo Sports at Vern Eide Marine—this change will expand boat selections and services for customers in Sioux Falls. The business will combine its teams to offer more choices and improved support using Vern Eide Marine’s resources.  KELOLAND
  • Black Hills Corp. and NorthWestern Energy announced on Aug 19 that they are merging to create South Dakota’s largest public utility—a deal expected to complete in 12 to 15 months after receiving regulatory approval. The new company, valued at $7.8 billion, will be headquartered in Rapid City and led by Brian Bird as Black Hills Energy CEO Linn Evans retires.  KTIV

CRIME NEWS

  • Two South Dakota farmers, James & Levi Garrett, were ordered by Judge Roberto Lange to pay over $4 million in a civil judgment for falsely claiming crop insurance payouts for crops they did not plant in 2018 and 2019.  KELOLAND

  • The City of Sioux Falls lifted the boil water advisory in northeast areas after testing confirmed no E. coli in the water supply—residents may now use water for drinking, cooking, and other needs.  City of Sioux Falls
  • James Oppenheimer, CEO of Sioux Falls Family YMCA and former leader of Sioux Falls Area Humane Society, announced his campaign for an At-Large seat on the City Council for the June 2 election. His campaign focuses on balanced city growth—public safety and road improvements while current Councilwoman Sarah Cole chairs his effort.  KELOLAND
  • Sioux Falls Planning and Development Services invites residents to share feedback on the draft Shape Sioux Falls 2050 plan via an online site and in-person events held today at Lake Lorraine Farmers Market, on Sept 20 at Downtown Riverfest, and on Oct 6 at Siouxland Libraries. Staff will update the long-range guide for community growth based on input before it is reviewed by the Planning Commission and City Council.  City of Sioux Falls
  • The Sioux Falls One Stop building at 1501 S. Highline Ave. brings together 12 state agencies into one location to offer streamlined services for residents. Inside, clear spaces for driver licensing, social services and employee breaks show a modern facility designed for ease of access — officials say the design will improve service delivery.  Argus Leader
