  • On Sept. 2, 2025, Claire's Holdings paused liquidation sales for the Claire's and Icing jewelry stores in The Empire Mall—saving them from a planned closure as the company announced the sale of its North American business to an affiliate of Ames Watson. CRIME NEWS

  • Sioux Falls police investigated 10 gunshot calls early Tuesday morning—no damage or injuries were reported as officers collected video footage to identify suspects and vehicles.  KELOLAND

CULTURE NEWS

  • During the summer, Sioux Falls hosted two large-scale festivals as Lallycooler and Lifelight drew thousands with city parks prepared and traffic plans adjusted—local businesses and campgrounds benefited from the increased activity.   • Sheldon Jensen, a 25-year-old development representative for the Governor’s Office of Economic Development — chosen for his commitment to local businesses — was featured as this week’s Up-and-Comer for connecting communities and enhancing economic growth. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Sept. 2, the City of Sioux Falls issued a water advisory for Arrowhead and Veterans after a valve error during testing of a new water line caused unsatisfactory water to mix in the system. Crews flushed the affected area and collected bacteriological samples — residents must boil water for drinking and cooking until officials confirm it is safe.  Argus Leader
  • South Dakota DOC Secretary Kellie Wasko will step down effective Oct. 20 after lawmakers lost confidence in her leadership — she said she discussed the decision with her family and will seek other opportunities.  Argus Leader

  • Surgeons in Sanford Health’s orthopedic residency program use the PrecisionOS Virtual Training Platform to practice surgical techniques with VR headsets and hand controls.
