  • Catfish Bay ended its season with 15 water shows—only one was rained out—that delighted thousands with family-friendly acts like barefoot skiing while founder Jim Bruns said closing a great summer brought mixed feelings.  KELOLAND
  • Labor Day weekend brought many campers to Palisades State Park—District Park Supervisor Luke Dreckman noted turnout dropped about one percent due to rain—while families like the Schultes enjoyed campfire gatherings and s'mores as the park prepares heated cabins for cooler fall camping.  KELOLAND
  • Union supporters gathered at Fawick Park in Sioux Falls on Sept. 1 as part of the nationwide Workers Over Billionaires rally to support labor unions—speakers from groups such as AFGE and Millwrights Local 548 held signs stating that labor— not hate— makes America great.  Argus Leader

  • Downtown Sioux Falls is getting a new bakery as Breadico Sourdough Bread Company will soon open to serve bread and pastries—including sourdough, turnovers, and cookies—after sharing its plans on Facebook.  KELOLAND

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On Sunday, a lottery winner claimed a Luck for Life second prize ticket at Dakotamart in Fort Pierre and can choose between $25,000 a year or a lump sum of $390,000—one of five major lottery wins this month—and the prize may be claimed at any South Dakota Lottery center.  KELOLAND

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sioux Falls Regional Airport has begun construction on a concourse expansion that will add four new gates and restrooms at a base cost of $70 million. A groundbreaking is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday and the new gates will open by March, boosting the airport's capacity—concourse growth supports increased travel demand.  SiouxFalls.Business

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Sunday, International Overdose Awareness Day was marked in Sioux Falls with a candlelight vigil underneath the Arc of Dreams—Emily’s Hope founder Angela Kennecke reported 46 overdose deaths in Minnehaha and Lincoln Counties over the past 18 months. Several speakers, including Sammi Swier who lost her cousin to an overdose, shared stories to honor those lost and acknowledge survivors.  KELOLAND
