COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local artisans will gather in Shriver's Square atrium on Saturday, August 30 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. as the Atrium Makers Market offers handmade items such as candles, pottery, jewelry, and gourmet food — vendors may join for $10 per space.  KXRB
  • At Prairie Green Golf Course, 144 golfers in 36 teams played in the Kidz-N-Coats tournament today despite rain to raise funds for new winter coats for kids in need in Sioux Falls. Sponsors helped support the event and people who missed it can donate less than $25 to buy a coat.  KELOLAND
  • Today, Sioux Falls hosts a wide range of free community events including the All My Relatives Festival at Levitt at the Falls starting at 10 a.m., a BBQ Competition Fundraiser, a rodeo challenge with live music at McCrossan, a card show, farmers market, and public safety day at Hartford Fire Station. Additional weekend events include a steam threshing jamboree at Historic Prairie Village, the final day of the Central States Fair, a birthday bash at Wings Gymnastics Academy, a performance by the Mighty Corson Art Players, movie showings, a baseball game, and sprint car races in Hartford — offering something for everyone.  KELOLAND

  • Kelly Reum and his wife Donella Reum launched Dakota Empyrean by pairing his abstract paintings with her crochet animals. CULTURE NEWS

  • A vibrant celebration of Native American music, art and culture is taking place today at Levitt at the Falls from 10 a.m. until 9:30 p.m.—the free All My Relatives Festival features performances, a fashion show, interactive activities, and headliner Mato Wayuhi at 7 p.m.  SiouxFalls.Business
  • Former South Dakota Public Broadcasting employees formed an alumni group to support fundraising after the station lost all federal funds and now faces major cuts that include laying off 15 workers and reducing local services—volunteers plan to raise over $2 million by October—helping secure future educational programming.  KELOLAND
  • Today, the 22nd annual SculptureWalk in downtown Sioux Falls named Best of Show for the piece Tetra Totem in Azul Imperia (created by local artist Lauren Thompson) on view at 227 North Duluth Avenue until next spring.
