- ➤ Former NFL linebacker Nathan Gerry returned to South Dakota and started Rawly, a business that makes dog food using the BARF method which helped his dog Koba beat allergies and infections. He partners with local meat lockers and farmers to supply meals with 80 percent protein, 10 percent organs and 10 percent bone—mixed with flax seeds, chia seeds, hemp hearts, sweet potatoes, blueberries and bone broth. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police reported on August 14 that 10 vehicles parked at gyms at 43rd and Duluth and 26th and Sycamore had their windows smashed during an early-morning smash and grab—officials urged residents to lock their vehicles and remove valuables. KXRB
- ➤ South Dakota courts warned residents that scammers are sending fake calls and texts claiming unpaid court fines or missed jury duty — and they stressed that legitimate agencies never ask for payment via gift cards, cryptocurrency or apps. KXRB
- ➤ Sioux Falls Police responded to a crash near 57th Street and South Solberg Avenue at about 10:35 p.m. on Thursday after a driver ran a stoplight, with the victim taken to the hospital with serious injuries and 20-year-old Nathan Kevin Krier arrested (charges include DWI, controlled substance possession and felony hit-and-run). - ➤ A Sioux Falls woman, 30-year-old Chardea Daines Odom, was indicted by a federal grand jury for making false statements to buy a gun as a straw purchase for a convicted felon whose weapon was used in a shooting that threatened three law enforcement officers, and she pleaded not guilty and was released on bond—her charges carry severe penalties pending trial. - ➤ Yesterday, trade leaders including Gov. Larry Rhoden, Gov. Jim Pillen, Congressman Dusty Johnson, and Congressman Adrian Smith met in Sioux Falls for the 2025 Midwest Agricultural Export Summit—addressing trade barriers, global partnerships, and strategies to boost agricultural exports while South Dakota Trade CEO Jesse Fonkert stressed the need for fair trade policies. - ➤ U.S. News and World Report ranked more than 500 regional hospitals and named two Sioux Falls facilities—Sanford USD Medical Center and Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center—as among the nation's best.
