  • Dakota Dachshund Rescue is hosting Woofstock tomorrow at Remedy Brewing Company at 8th and Railroad Center from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., where families can meet adoptable dogs; Remedy will also host Brick Falls in the Pickleball Pub with tickets at $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 3 to 12 — a fundraiser that mixes dog adoption with local LEGO art.  KELOLAND
  • Sioux Falls will host the Lifelight Festival on August 31 at Nelson Park with free family-friendly events and Christian music. Grammy-nominated artists such as We The Kingdom and Anne Wilson — along with professional skateboarding and BMX shows — will perform as organizers expect a large turnout.  KXRB

  • Business owner Andrew Adam is opening Reptile Adventure Zoo at 2501 W. Russell St. in Sioux Falls—this 4,700-square-foot space will include a reptile zoo, pet shop, and nonprofit headquarters for Sioux Falls Area Reptile Rescue and Rehoming with interactive exhibits and live reptiles. He awaits permits to install reptile enclosures as the pet shop is set to open by Sept. 28 while the zoo side is expected to be ready by fall.  SiouxFalls.Business

CRIME NEWS

  • Sioux Falls police reported Thursday that vehicles were broken into near two gyms with three cases near 43rd Street and Duluth Avenue and seven cases near 26th Street and Sycamore Avenue—purses and backpacks were stolen after workouts.  KELOLAND
  • A Sioux Falls man, Jabriel Fears, was indicted on four counts of attempted first-degree murder—charging him for a premeditated shooting of four victims downtown—and he was re-booked into jail today after a previous aggravated assault arrest.  KELOLAND
  • A Nebraska woman named Shelia Risseeuw filed a federal lawsuit against the city of Sioux Falls and its police department—alleging that officers acted negligently during a summer chase when a stolen car hit her vehicle at a red light and caused permanent injuries—seeking more than $75,000 as compensation while the driver now serves time for vehicular battery and eluding police.  KELOLAND

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sioux Falls' pipe organ from St. Joseph's Cathedral is being carefully dismantled for its move to Grace Woodlands Church in Texas—an iconic instrument that has been part of the cathedral for 30 years. Crews are working with caution so it can be reassembled and installed by late October while parishioners say goodbye to a cherished piece of local history.  KXRB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • USD Sanford School of Medicine will offer its full four-year doctor program from Sioux Falls starting summer of 2027, cutting faculty commute time by consolidating training to one location—an effort that improves hands-on learning in our community. Sanford Health will provide temporary space at its Business Center and Research facility to support the transition—moving 24 faculty, 15 researchers and 29 staff from Vermillion.  SiouxFalls.Business
  • Sioux Falls Public Schools released the 2025-2026 calendar today—school will begin on August 21 and the schedule includes no school for Labor Day on August 29 and September 1, a Thanksgiving break from November 26 to 28, an early dismissal on December 23 with winter break until January 2, and spring break from March 16 to 20 with the last day on May 20.  KXRB
  • Sioux Falls School District said students who qualify for reduced-price breakfast and lunch will receive free meals because USDA pays full cost for free meals and the district covers the remaining costs while families must complete an online application each year. Nearly half of the district’s students qualify, but only 1,700 applications have been submitted so far (6,777 last year) as meal prices have been raised slightly.  Argus Leader
