CRIME NEWS

  • A judge sentenced 26-year-old Jaclyn Blue Coat to 11 years in federal prison for voluntary manslaughter after she stabbed Raden Eagle Chasing—the father of her children—outside his home last September following an argument.  KELOLAND
  • A Lincoln County jury convicted Justin Rackley Tuesday of the triple murder of Michael Thompson, Kellie Reaves, and Daniel Kemnitz in southwest Sioux Falls — he was also found guilty on two counts of aggravated assault injuring two survivors.  KELOLAND
  • Sioux Falls Police said there were 20 reports of an EBT scam on August 12 when cardholders could not use their SNAP cards—and they are checking how scammers got the card information, with all cases looking similar, according to spokesman Aaron Benson.  KELOLAND

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sioux Falls School District's staffing report for the 2025-2026 school year shows that only one special education teaching position at Axtell Park remains open while 90 support positions need filling, a marked improvement from over 300 vacancies in recent years. The report noted that 134 new teachers were hired and 1,289 applications were received (many from both within and outside the district) as officials continue using programs like apprenticeships to meet remaining needs.  Argus Leader

  • Sioux Falls City Council is reviewing Mayor Paul TenHaken's proposed 2026 budget over the next 21 days as tough choices may force cuts to pools, libraries, and snow removal services. Councilors said they will hold public hearings every Tuesday at 3 p.m.—ensuring community voices are heard before any final decisions are made.  KELOLAND
