  • Sioux Falls families are getting ready for autumn as local pumpkin patches, apple picking, and fall festivals open soon—Country Apple Orchard will begin its season with a fall festival on August 29th while other events continue through October.  KXRB
  • The Sioux Empire Fair is in its final days after nine busy days of rides and funnel cakes at the W.H. Lyon fairgrounds. CEO Scott Wick said tonight will feature Kip Moore—Friday offers a monster midway show and match events, and Saturday ends with championship rodeo performances, free parking and a 9 p.m. curfew for teens.  KELOLAND

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A high-speed collision near 10th Street and Cliff Avenue on Wednesday night left a passenger dead and forced road closures from 10th Street to Fairfax Avenue for about four hours—while a 30-year-old woman driving a 2013 Ford Explorer was hospitalized and two other drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries.  KELOLAND

  • Gemini Data Center SD LLC, linked to a California family office, is asking the city to rezone 160 acres near the Veterans Parkway exit by Interstate 90 in northeast Sioux Falls to allow the first hyperscale data center here. If approved, construction will start in 2026 and the facility will be online in 2028 (adding up to 150 jobs and generating millions in tax revenue).  SiouxFalls.Business
  • Bibisol is a Mexican restaurant on Phillips Avenue that started serving guests on July 19 and celebrated one year in business with a nod as a James Beard semifinalist for its fresh, homemade dishes — the owners plan to expand their menu with farm-to-table tortillas and new items.   • After closing her Consignor’s Designs store last year, Jennifer Miles is opening J Miles Design & More at 1714 South Minnesota Ave on Sept. 2, where she will offer affordable home staging, design, and downsizing services.   • Four South Dakota newspapers owned by News Media Corporation closed on Wednesday after hundreds of employees were laid off—this sudden shutdown left local government and school groups without the legal newspaper needed for posting required meeting notices.  KELOLAND

  • Testimony continued on the second day of a triple murder trial in Lincoln County — witnesses recounted the events of that night while Justin Rackley faces charges of first degree murder and assault for shooting people outside a southwest Sioux Falls home last summer.  KELOLAND

  • At the Aug. 6 city council meeting, residents expressed fear over Gov. Rhoden's Operation: Prairie Thunder while Mayor TenHaken clarified that the ICE part is state-led+ and not managed by the city. Some attendees urged pulling out of the initiative, but council members said the city lacks the legal authority to do so.  Argus Leader
