- ➤ On Friday, people gathered in Murdo for the funeral of a firefighter who died in the line of duty while a Texas man faced charges after a police pursuit near Summerset. Bikers rode hundreds of miles to kick off the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in the Black Hills, heavy rain set a record in Rapid City on August 1, and the 86th annual Sioux Empire Fair began last night at the W-H Lyon Fairgrounds—Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office handled security. - ➤ Sioux Falls announced the Oak View Branch of Siouxland Libraries will close for renovations starting Monday, August 18 until it reopens in late December. The updates will modernize the 20-year-old building by improving the entrance, restrooms, staff and study areas and adding a new patio (funded by a $140,000 donation from the Lansky family). KELOLAND

- ➤ Artists from four states filled Lions Centennial Park with chalk drawings of dinosaurs, clowns, and other designs during the Chalk Sioux Falls event.
