  • Sioux Falls pools have seen record attendance this hot, humid summer as locals come to cool off. Assistant director Brett Kollars said the pools will close in a staggered approach beginning mid-August (exact dates are not finalized).  KELOLAND
  • The Outdoor Campus in Sioux Falls is hosting a free gear giveaway event—designed to help get locals fishing and hunting—on Saturday, August 9 from 10:00 to noon. Donations of gently used gear can be dropped off at the campus Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 to 4:00.  KELOLAND

  • An appeals court reversed an arbitration panel's decision that had ordered MyPillow founder Mike Lindell to pay $5 million to software engineer Robert Zeidman for challenging his 2021 Prove Mike Wrong Challenge+ the ruling stated that the arbitrators exceeded their authority by effectively amending the contest's contract terms and instructs a lower court to either overturn the award+ or start further proceedings.  Argus Leader

  • Sioux Falls Attorney General Marty Jackley confirmed that a Minnehaha County Deputy was justified on June 26 when he fired 10 rounds at suspect Will-Anthony Owen Jellis (47), who pointed a loaded shotgun at officers during a felony warrant arrest attempt at his home.  KXRB

HEALTH NEWS

  • Crews at Sanford Health lifted a 13,000-pound MRI machine into the new orthopedics building on Thursday morning, letting doctors use real-time scans during surgery. The 150,000-square-foot facility will have 12 operating rooms and will serve patients next January next to the Sanford Children’s Hospital.  KELOLAND
  • South Dakota reported a death from West Nile virus after three people fell ill in Brookings, Marshall, and Spink counties and a blood donor tested positive in Brown County. The state found infected mosquito pools in seven counties and expects up to 134 cases this year—health officials advise vigilance to reduce the spread.  KELOLAND
  • Treehouse Nest Therapy Services—a new therapy center for children with autism and developmental delays—will open next month in Sioux Falls; a ribbon-cutting event is scheduled for today at 11:30 a.m. at the center east of 69th and Minnesota.  KELOLAND

Grant St. in east Sioux Falls, offering a tea bar with a signature butterfly pea flower tea with vanilla creamer along with wellness services including a salt room, sauna and classes.
