  • Today, the Department of Corrections alerted the public that a high-risk sex offender will be released next week while a Little Eagle man was jailed for killing his brother and lawmakers continue to question funding after Mayor TenHaken’s property tax comments—Congress has reclaimed funds from SDPB, which may soon see staffing cuts as severe storms prompted a tornado warning in Cottonwood County even as thousands attended the Rock the County festival.  KELOLAND
  • Local non-profits are easing the back-to-school burden by ensuring every student gets lunch and a backpack with supplies. The Sioux Falls Area Humane Society seeks community support—an investigation into the former FLDS compound in western South Dakota is also under way.  KELOLAND

HEALTH NEWS

  • Wade Erickson, CEO of Horizon Health, warned that Medicaid cuts in the federal budget law could force rural providers to reduce services and leave patients with fewer options for care—this change may mean more people in our rural areas go without needed treatment.  KELOLAND

SPORTS NEWS

  • Sioux Falls Sports Authority, a two-person office, plans major sports events including Summit League tournaments, the Sioux Falls Marathon, and the Boxing Classic.
