  • Today in downtown Sioux Falls, The Cookie Jar Eatery has baked treats for 70 years and is now run by Glen and Elaine Koch who serve cookies, biscotti, breakfast sandwiches and homemade bread at its new CNA building location, 101 S. Reid Street. The Kochs said vendors are raising prices by five percent due to tariffs and they plan to sell the business when a good fit is found—continuing a rich family tradition.  KELOLAND
  • The Tea Chamber for Development will host the Momentum 25 conference on Aug. 28 at Embrace Church in Tea to help small-business owners connect and share best practices—its sessions cater to founders in the morning and offer additional speakers for team members in the afternoon.   • 63-year-old Ray Steele was sentenced to three years in prison — with three years of supervised release — after investigators discovered a hidden bunker in his basement that stored seven guns, thousands of rounds of ammo, and supplies linked to illegal gun conversion.  KELOLAND
  • Sioux Falls Police arrested 25-year-old Shakaira Two Bulls Sunday afternoon after she allegedly swung a machete during a dispute in a parking lot on South Larch Avenue — the male victim sustained only minor injuries.  KXRB

ECONOMY NEWS

  • South Dakota committed $1M to a revolving seed fund for early-stage tech startups, beginning with a $500k SD Works Legacy loan to Elevate Rapid City and an expected $500k award to an East River partner (the fund aims to help businesses that struggle with traditional loans). Gov. Larry Rhoden (the governor) said the program gave new tech companies a chance to grow and build a sustainable capital pool.  SiouxFalls.Business

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Club is a new 16,000-square-foot facility built by the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire in partnership with the Sioux Falls School District that will open on Thursday, Aug. 21 at George McGovern Middle School to provide free after-school programs for at least 100 children daily + additional activities on non-school days. It will feature programs like STEM, art, and tutoring to support student attendance and learning.  KELOLAND

  • Sioux Falls Little League advanced to the Midwest Region Tournament after defeating Brandon Valley 6-1 on July 13 at Griffin Park in Pierre. The team will begin their tournament play against Iowa on Aug. 1 with games streamed on ESPN+.  Argus Leader
