CRIME NEWS

  • Sioux Falls police attempted to serve an arrest warrant on July 7th near West 10th and South Garfield Avenue when the suspect produced a firearm + officers fired at him, injuring him and sending him to a local hospital while the incident is under investigation by the state Division of Criminal Investigations.  KXRB
  • Sioux Falls police shot 24-year-old Deondre Gene Blackhawk on July 7 when he fired a handgun at three officers serving an arrest warrant near S Garfield Avenue and 10th Street, and the Division of Criminal Investigation is now investigating the incident while Blackhawk remains hospitalized, marking the fifth officer-involved shooting in 2025.  KELOLAND
  • Sioux Falls police arrested 44-year-old Shawn Roubideaux for second-degree murder after 36-year-old Daniel Marshall died in hospital from his injuries—video evidence from Alesia BlackBonnet’s phone reportedly shows Roubideaux admitting the assault, and 34-year-old BlackBonnet and 32-year-old Saige Quinn were also arrested.  KELOLAND

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting July 10, Sioux Falls drivers will face new traffic patterns on I-29 and I-90 as crews repair the highways. Southbound I-29 lanes will shift to the two easternmost lanes (until August 15) with work finishing by October 17, while eastbound I-90 will run two-way traffic (until August 15) with repairs set to complete by September 26.  KXRB
  • The Project Prison Reset board met July 8 at the Military Heritage Alliance in Sioux Falls and rejected the Mitchell and Worthing sites for a new men's prison. The board left two local options — a 148-acre parcel near Benson Road and North Bahnson Avenue and the Sweetman site near North Bahnson and Interstate 229 — for further consideration if the state moves forward.  Argus Leader
  • City councilors in Sioux Falls will review a finalized proposal on July 15 to extend PatientCare EMS’s contract for five years—this comes as the current agreement expires in May and includes plans for new ambulance trucks next year; Councilor Curt Soehl has urged a full bid process for better pricing.  KELOLAND
