- ➤ Sioux Falls Fire and Rescue battled a house fire near the 3300 block of east 28th street Saturday just before 8 p.m.—an abundance of smoke came from the top floor as crews worked to control the flames. KELOLAND

- ➤ Despite high heat on Saturday, people gathered downtown to celebrate Juneteenth—showing that the weather did not stop the community. Grand Marshal Carl Teer urged everyone to stay hydrated while organizers provided canopies, misters, and free drinks—measures planned over the year. KELOLAND
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Augustana University will launch a new Occupational Therapy Doctorate next fall that cuts the traditional three-year program to two years. The accelerated hybrid program requires students to join lab immersions in the Twin Cities (a key step to meet regional demand). KELOLAND
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews are finishing the new South Veterans Highway today on the southeast side, where they are draining a slough and hauling silt to pave the road for more traffic. The highway — linking I-29 and I-90 — will soon ease commutes as the city expects an influx of nearly 10,000 new residents each year. KXRB
- ➤ The Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead is hollowing out a mountain to build a tunnel for neutrino experiments that will beam particles from Fermilab in Batavia to detectors deep underground as part of a $3 billion project to study black hole birth. KXRB
