  • The South Dakota Department of Corrections confirmed three inmate deaths from drug overdoses at two facilities in Sioux Falls and police arrested a man for shooting a 39-year-old in a 2nd Street alley on June 4—he was shot at around 9:30 a.m. Florist Stacy Schapp is now offering new Father’s Day gardening supplies while weather reports show showers and thunderstorms moved through the area in the past 24 hours with a 20% chance of storms this afternoon and highs in the lower to middle 80s.  KELOLAND
  • Sioux Falls will host 50-75 Sailors during Navy Week from August 4 to 10—Navy officials say the visit, celebrating the Navy’s 250th anniversary, will include events like a Navy Band performance and community activities at local attractions including the Falls.  KELOLAND
  • Today, 8th Street in downtown Sioux Falls turns colorful as about 40 entries begin the Sioux Falls Pride parade at 10 a.m. from Dakota Avenue to Reid Street. Later at Yankton Trail Park, the festival starts at noon with 75 vendors, food trucks and drag performances, and grand marshal Cody Ingle (an advocate who helped organize the first parade) will join the celebration.  KELOLAND

  • Second Helpings, a secondhand store focused on plus-size clothing, relocated on May 31 to Southway Center at 2133 S. CULTURE NEWS

  • Local artists set up shop at Washington Pavilion in downtown Sioux Falls for the Art Collective, showcasing over 70 artworks from crafts to fine art. The multi-day event—free to the public—continues today from 1 to 7 p.m.  KELOLAND

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sioux Falls emergency manager Regan Smith is preparing for the planned phase-out of FEMA after this hurricane season — and he said the city’s current disaster plan will stay in place as state officials and Governor Rhoden set up a disaster preparedness task force.  KELOLAND
  • Starting Monday, June 16, the northbound lane of North Minnesota Avenue between 14th and 18th Streets will be closed for sidewalk improvements—this is the fifth phase of an eight-phase project scheduled to finish by August. In addition, a section of the Tuthill Park recreation trail will be closed for bike repairs with a signed detour provided until the repairs finish by the end of June.  City of Sioux Falls
  • Sioux Falls Police have prepared for a busy weekend as today hosts the Pride Parade and Festival at Yankton Trail Park, the Festival of Cultures at the Levitt, and the 'No Kings' protest on North Minnesota Avenue. The department will use appropriate staffing and does not expect problems, with organizers anticipating over 10,000 at Pride festivities (parade at 10 a.m. on Eighth Street and festival from noon to 5 p.m.) and about 1,000 at the protest (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.).  Argus Leader
