  • Sioux Falls Development Foundation launched the Intern Sioux Falls program today to help local interns network with professionals at a welcome lunch and Young Professionals Network gathering—interns receive a free one-year membership and can look forward to a follow-up event on June 24 at Startup Sioux Falls—this program aims to foster lasting ties in our community.  KELOLAND
  • For over 100 years, farmers and vendors have met almost every weekend at the Falls Park Farmers Market, which started near Calvary Cathedral and later moved to Falls Park. The market has grown to 40 booths spurred by changes from COVID — and later this year it will hold its first winter market every other weekend at the Mosaic Arts & Events center.  KELOLAND
  • Sioux Falls has planned a week of free Independence Day events from June 29 through July 5 — including music performances at the Falls, a patriotic bike parade, free swimming and fishing events, and a community lunch on July 4.   • Local Sioux Falls family-owned ice cream stand Dakota Snow Polar Bites is experiencing a slow season as nearby road construction limits customer traffic at its 501 East 41st Street location. The business, whose young staff are saving for college and other goals, is asking the community for support (it operates Monday through Sunday from 12 PM to 9 PM).  KXRB
  • Fernson Downtown debuts its new food menu today from Totally Rad Eats, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner + pairing the fare with its beer. Chef Beau Vondra, a well-known local chef, designed the menu after soft openings on June 7 and 8.  Argus Leader

CRIME NEWS

  • Sioux Falls police are searching for 28-year-old parolee Dustin Gallegos Jr.—accused of shooting a 39-year-old man near the police station and leaving him with a fractured left femur during a drug-related incident at around 9:30 a.m. today on West 2nd Street—after a witness recorded the event and a woman identified him on social media.  KELOLAND

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Three properties along Minnesota Avenue were demolished on June 10 to clear the way for a future road project, and the city and South Dakota Department of Transportation shared the cost for the nearly 3-acre site at 3600, 3604, and 3612 S. Minnesota Ave. The site will remain vacant until it is bid for the Exit 3 reconstruction—linking Minnesota Avenue with Interstate 229—after Exit 4 is completed in 2027-28.  SiouxFalls.Business

  • Sioux Falls has a list of Father's Day events running from June 1 through 15 that honor dads, grandfathers, stepdads, and fur dads — a guide featuring grill outs, card making at AMC Collective, golf scrambles at Willow Run, and dining specials like Scheels’ Grill Fest on June 14 — offering local families many choices to celebrate.  Argus Leader

  • Coach Kalen DeBoer returns to Sioux Falls to headline Sanford Sports Night on July 10 at the Sanford Pentagon+ he will join his USF teammate Kurtiss Riggs, who will moderate sports discussions from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m and lead a tribute to the retiring Legends for Kids program.
