COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sioux Falls' outdoor pools opened on May 30 for the 2025 swim season and now offer a range of indoor and outdoor options with varying hours and amenities for residents. The city will upgrade facilities at Frank Olson and Kuehn Parks pending council approval—promising new recreation centers for community use.  Argus Leader

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Empire Mall announced five new stores—Carhartt, Hollister, Lululemon, Perfume Palace and Sawyer Wood Products—are coming to the shopping center. Carhartt will open this Fall near the Food Court Entrance while Hollister will be near Dillard’s, Lululemon will relocate to center court, Perfume Palace is set to open this summer and Sawyer Wood Products will debut near Macy’s as the mall did not provide a timeline for the openings.  KELOLAND

CRIME NEWS

  • Local authorities warn Sioux Falls residents to ignore scam texts that claim unpaid parking tickets and include threats of enforcement (the state does not send such messages), and they urge victims to verify fines through official channels and report any suspicious texts.  KXRB
  • A Sioux Falls man named Matthew Wilson, 39, was sentenced to 90 days in jail and ordered to pay $3,507.20 after pleading guilty to stealing funds from the Lincoln County Fraternal Order of Police Union between July and September 2024—electronic monitoring was approved despite the state requesting 180 days.  KELOLAND

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sioux Falls is working on several street construction projects that will affect drivers this week and in the coming years — projects include ADA improvements on 41st and Minnesota Avenues, a $45 million sewer extension on West Madison and 264th, and roadway updates on South Cliff and 85th Streets with some detours closing routes until as late as 2027. Other work on the Cliff and I-229 interchange, South Veterans Parkway and Pump Station 240 is underway with varying completion dates that may cause further changes to traffic patterns.  Argus Leader
  • The state government released a full schedule of public meetings for boards and legislative committees from Monday, June 9 through Monday, June 16 in places like Sioux Falls, Pierre, and Aberdeen—attendees should expect both teleconference and in-person sessions with possible weather changes. The schedule was assembled in Pierre by Capitol Bureau reporter Bob Mercer on June 6.  KELOLAND
