EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Camp Leif Ericson in Sioux Falls has opened its summer camp for children (ages 4-15) during its opening week, with full-day sessions for older campers and half days for younger ones. Director Aspen Taylor said the camp offers a variety of outdoor activities including biking, archery, and horse riding, and registration is still available. KELOLAND
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Nearly 200 South Dakota Air National Guard members returned from a mission that began in 2023 and spanned three regions, with the final group arriving in April. A Saturday morning ceremony in Sioux Falls honored the airmen—Technical Sergeant Roger Crook retiring after nearly 20 years and his son Trevor on his first deployment—highlighting strong family support in service. - ➤ Task force members from Project Prison Reset met in Pierre last week and agreed to build a new men’s prison at a site in Worthing or Mitchell. The facility will house 1,500 to 1,700 inmates at a cost of no more than $600 million—JE Dunn Construction will present proposals at the July meeting. KELOLAND
