- ➤ South Dakota Auditor Rich Sattgast explained in an interview that he released detailed credit card vouchers from former Governor Noem’s office after a lawsuit demanded more transparency. Lawmakers and officials at a May 8 meeting noted that changes—such as separate accounts for travel and security costs—have been made to better track spending and hold state officials accountable. - ➤ Moody County Chief Deputy Sheriff Ken Prorok was honored by a Senate resolution that listed 234 officers who died in the line of duty in 2024; he lost his life while deploying spike strips during a police chase and was lauded by Senator John Thune. The resolution, sponsored by Senator Chuck Grassley, also declared May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and May 11 to 17 as National Police Week. Argus Leader
- ➤ South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley and 39 other AGs opposed a proposed congressional budget amendment that would impose a ban lasting 10 years on state enforcement of AI regulations, saying the move would limit the state’s ability to protect against public harms.
