- ➤ The Sioux Falls Municipal Band will kick off its summer season on Saturday, May 17 at 10 a.m. at the South Dakota Military Alliance — more free themed concerts are planned at local parks to honor a century of community music. KXRB
- ➤ On May 12, Sioux Falls announced the Art Walls initiative—giving local artists a new space to paint murals on downtown alley walls. The public art wall on the east side of the 300 Building at 6th Street and Dakota Ave will feature rotating murals to bring color to the area this summer. KXRB

- ➤ On Monday, the U.S. and China cut tariffs for 90 days—leaving a 10% rate on most imports and 30% on fentanyl production—and South Dakota economics professors said the change is expected to boost manufacturing while small businesses may struggle to stock up on needed materials. KTIV

- ➤ On May 12, the Sioux Falls School Board approved stricter cell phone rules for high schoolers that ban phones in classrooms and academic hallways while allowing them during lunch in cafeterias for the next school year. A 36-member committee — which gathered over 12,000 community survey responses — helped shape the new policy. KXRB
- ➤ Sioux Falls School District will offer free breakfast and lunch all summer to kids ages 0 to 18 at seven locations from May 29 through August 8, except July 4, with breakfast served from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m.—parents may join for a small fee. KXRB
- ➤ Graduating senior Owen Vincelli will soon earn his high school diploma and start a construction career at Journey Group on Monday after graduation using a full-ride Build Dakota scholarship. - ➤ Sanford Children’s Hospital partnered with Marsh McLennan Agency on May 8 to announce a 10-year, $1 million philanthropic commitment aimed at expanding pediatric behavioral health services in the Sioux Falls region. The funding will allow the hospital to hire more full-time therapists and social workers and expand screening, assessment and follow-up programs—helping children with anxiety, depression, ADHD and trauma receive better care.
