- ➤ The Cattlemen’s Foundation and Jorgensen Land — Cattle donated a 23,000‑pound shipment of all‑beef hot dogs to Feeding South Dakota amid federal funding cuts that have left food supplies short. - ➤ Falls Park Farmers Market will reopen this weekend — featuring 40 vendors offering new products and live entertainment — while board member Nate Van Zweden said plans are underway to add a winter market and operate year-round; it will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday until the last weekend in October, weather permitting. - ➤ Education groups welcomed South Dakota’s jump to 46th in the national teacher pay ranking as average salaries reached just over $56,000 (up three spots from last year) and urged lawmakers to keep investing in schools to address teacher shortages (with 200 job openings noted during the school year). - ➤ Downtown parking rules changed when extended-length vehicles were restricted from using drive lanes on Phillips Avenue starting May 1—affecting about 140 spots and moving longer vehicles to side streets or designated lots. - ➤ State officials on a corrections work group voted last Tuesday to support replacing the 1881 penitentiary because its building is outdated and unsafe.
