- ➤ Jefferson High School’s welding program earned the top score in a weld-off among Sioux Falls’ four public schools on Thursday—scoring an 88.3 average on both a welded toolbox project and a written test completed by the top 15 student welders. - ➤ Sioux Falls Fire Rescue will start taking applications for its Cadet Academy training for firefighters starting in 2026. Applications open from April 28—May 21 with an online exam on June 3, followed by interviews and conditional offers leading to an 18-week paid training program. KXRB
- ➤ South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announced Wednesday that the NCAA settled a lawsuit alleging a proposed $2.8 billion athlete compensation deal would burden small schools—cutting first-year payments by 33% to save about $2 million. The settlement also reimburses the South Dakota Board of Regents $24,815 for litigation costs—while prompting meetings with SDSU, USD and Sioux Falls leaders to discuss NCAA issues and potential championship events.
