- ➤ People in Wessington Springs mourned the loss of Assistant Fire Chief Michial Brodkorb and his partner Tiffany Knipfer after a house fire began on March 27. At his funeral on Saturday, many first responders lined 2nd Street to honor his service — showing strong community support. KELOLAND
- ➤ Around 1,000 residents gathered near the federal courthouse on April 5 for a nationwide 'Hands Off!' protest in downtown Sioux Falls. Protesters held signs calling for hands off social security, postal service & a welcome to immigrants and refugees. Argus Leader
- ➤ CASA, a national volunteer program that helps abused children, marks April as Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month by hosting local events in Sioux Falls—volunteer Paul Phalen has handled four cases over three years and CEO Stacey Tieszen said local businesses will sponsor events such as a pizza night on April 16th. This effort aims to raise community awareness about the abuse and neglect problem affecting local children. KELOLAND

- ➤ A 22-year-old Highmore woman (Kila Louann Good) died at the scene when her 2005 Ford Excursion left the roadway near US Highway 14 mile marker 314 (road conditions may have contributed) while the South Dakota Highway Patrol investigates. KELOLAND
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police arrested 35-year-old Jordan Benedict Adams after a fatal stabbing early Friday morning on the west side of Sioux Falls where a 45-year-old man was found dead in the hallway of a Meadowland Apartment building in the 3500 block of south Larch Avenue following a fight, and Adams has been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, and aggravated assault—he is held in the Minnehaha County Jail. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Minnehaha County will test its warning sirens at 7 p.m. on the first Monday of every month—switching from Saturday tests—because fewer volunteer firefighters are available and residents should not worry about severe weather. The City of Sioux Falls will continue testing its sirens at 11 a.m. on the first Friday of the month. KELOLAND
