- ➤ Today, South Dakota energy officials reported that the federal rollback of clean energy rules has sparked debate over how quickly coal plants should be retired and wind energy— which produced 55% of net power generation in 2023—should be expanded. Public Utility Commissioners warned that an overly rapid transition might risk grid reliability during harsh winter hours, and some companies plan to retire coal plants by 2030 as regional policies continue to differ.
