Sioux Falls' Junkin' Market Days will take place at the W.H.
Lyon Fairgrounds on Friday, April 11 from 4 to 7 PM and Saturday, April 12 from 9 AM to 4 PM—featuring repurposed and rustic items like clothing, jewelry, artwork and food from hundreds of vendors across South and neighboring states—boosting local small businesses.

Animal lovers Morgan and Austin Weber acquired pet store Woofs and Waves after buying it late last year from founders Mark and Nicole Olesen—Mark will stay to share his 30 years of pet retail experience.
They will expand the shop with subscription deliveries, a monthly rescue donation program and by merging services from Aquarium Keepers to better serve local pet owners.

South Dakota's real GDP grew from $57.3 billion to $57.5 billion in 2024 (a 0.4% increase) even though the fourth quarter was 0.6% lower than the same time last year.
Worker shortages, lower farm income, weak consumer spending and high interest rates slowed growth compared to the national average of 2.8% (the state ranked 48th).
🎓 Education
The University of South Dakota Discovery District opened its first 50,000 square foot office and research building on April 1 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony near the USD — Sioux Falls campus.
The facility offers lab and shared resources for three tenants and is part of an 80 acre district planned to create nearly 2,800 jobs and drive innovation.
🏛️ Government
Starting this spring, the City of Sioux Falls will add a new weather warning—destructive severe thunderstorm warning—that will activate outdoor sirens and send Wireless Emergency Alerts when storms produce 80 mph winds or baseball-size hail.
The city will also hold its annual tornado drill on April 9 at 10:15 a.m. as part of South Dakota Severe Weather Awareness Week, urging residents to take shelter immediately when alerted.
