  • On March 28th, First Dakota National Bank announced that Larry Ness is stepping down as board chair after 29 years and that his son Mike Ness has been elected chairman while his sons Aaron and Rob remain in key board roles as vice chairman and corporate secretary, and both Larry Ness and former vice chairman Dave Olson will continue serving. The bank also stated that Dennis Everson has retired—marking a transition that follows decades of growth from one branch with $42 million in assets to 17 branches and over $2.9 billion in assets.  SiouxFalls.Business

CRIME NEWS

  • A Sioux Falls man, 44-year-old Kyle Oliver Lee Huff, is charged with three rape counts after he allegedly assaulted a woman for over three years when officers were called on March 24 as she said she was afraid of him — he is held on a $200,025 bond and will appear for a preliminary hearing on May 12.  Argus Leader
  • Sioux Falls police said on Thursday an argument at a downtown bar left one man hospitalized with a non-life-threatening stab wound and injuries from being hit by a car, and police arrested 21-year-old Sean Gottschalk (charged with vehicular battery and aggravated assault) after he drove into a group following the fight.  Argus Leader

  • Mike Haskett of downtown M.B. Haskett Delicatessen opened his restaurant early to serve Muslim families a pre-dawn meal (suhoor) during Ramadan, which began Feb 28 and will end with Eid al-Fitr on Sunday. The breakfast was a simple act that showed support for local traditions (a nod to shared community values) in Sioux Falls.  Argus Leader

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Dakota law enforcement will conduct sobriety checkpoints at 14 locations in April — exact times and spots have not been disclosed. The checkpoints will be funded by the Office of Highway Safety and carried out by the Highway Patrol with support from local agencies.  KXRB

  • Restaurants in Sioux Falls are offering special Easter brunch menus on Sunday, April 20 to help families skip long kitchen hours. Many venues offer buffet and plated options and suggest calling ahead for reservations to accommodate large groups.  KXRB

    On Saturday, March 29th, the 88th day of 2025, The South Dakota Corn Utilization Council (SDCUC) and Kwik Star are emphasizing their partnership with a first-of-its-kind event, Unleaded 88 Day (UNL88 Day), to promote the use of ethanol-blended fuel across eastern South Dakota. Between 8 AM and 8 PM on Saturday, March 29th, customers are invited to fill up their gas tanks with Unleaded 88 at any of South Dakota’s 11 Kwik Star locations for just $1.88 per gallon.
