  • Sioux Falls leaders and Smithfield Foods announced the relocation of the downtown pork processing facility to a new campus in northwestern Sioux Falls. The move (boosted by a $50 million gift from Denny Sanford) will install air-scrubbing technology to reduce pollution and support local farmers.  South Dakota News Watch
  • On Feb. 25, 2026, two downtown retailers were awarded grants by American Express and Main Street America to support their growth. Terra Shepherd Boutique at 218 S. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Siouxland Libraries, the local school district, and university libraries launch Everybody Reads March 1-31, aiming for 500,000 books read and funds for Reach Literacy. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Sioux Falls gardeners should note the Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts the last frost by May 6 and a 146-day growing season ahead. Spring begins on March 20 with warmer days and quick snow melt (forecast shows wetter conditions north and drier elsewhere).  KXRB

  • On Tuesday, state leaders including Gov. Larry Rhoden gathered outside the State Capitol in Pierre to ring the South Dakota Liberty Bell for America 250 (celebrating the state’s milestone) with Sioux Falls students and local residents in attendance.  KTIV
  • At 8:00 a.m. today, city crews closed the intersection of South Dakota Avenue & West 24th Street to repair a sewer main; repairs are expected to conclude by day's end as drivers are urged to use caution and alternate routes.  City of Sioux Falls
